As preparations are being made for Grace Schwindt’s opening tomorrow, I thought i’d take the time to tell you all about a really exciting new venture that Void is taking part in. Next Friday an armchair will arrive at Void and stay there for one month. However this isn’t just any old armchair, this is Mayor Chair.
Since it’s launch at the Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast The Mayor Chair has become a social media marketing sensation and it’s all thanks to University of Ulster lecturer, Alan Hook and PhD student Oonagh Murphy. The Mayor Chair is a traveling installation made of recycled materials which is stopping off at Void for one month as it travels around art venues across the province.
Using the location-based app FourSquare, visitors can ‘check-in’ at Void and whoever has checked in the most is awarded the ‘Mayorship’ of Void. Whilst Mayor of Void the lucky visitor will be given publications and catalogues of works shown at Void. The new Mayor may then enjoy his/her new books with a tea/coffee from the comfort of the Mayor Chair in a VIP section of the gallery. Previous Mayor’s have included; https://twitter.com/#!/e0in, https://twitter.com/#!/classygenes, https://twitter.com/#!/coalduststar
